E/M Coding Update (2023): Learn about the most recent E/M coding updates for 2023.  The pool of encounters which may be documented using the 2021 guidelines has been greatly expanded to include all E/M services in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.  The extent of the history and physical exam no longer affect the level of care selected, which is instead driven by time or the medical decision-making required for each visit.  There are new rules for calculating your medical decision-making and a new convention for adding up time spent.  There are also new codes for prolonged services for both inpatients and outpatients.  This course explains it all.

Run time: 61 minutes.                                           CME: 1 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 CME

Office-Based Psychiatry E/M Services: Learn how to apply the most recent E/M coding updates and guidance to the most common outpatient psychiatry E/M services.  Using clinical examples, you will learn to select the correct level of care for new office visits, established office visits and outpatient consult services.  The initial psychiatric evaluation codes as well as individual psychotherapy rules and psychotherapy + E/M services are also discussed.

Hospital-Based Psychiatry E/M Services: Learn how to apply the most recent E/M coding updates and guidance to the most common hospital-based psychiatry E/M services.  Using clinical examples, you will learn to select the correct level of care for initial hospital care services (admission H&Ps), subsequent hospital care services (hospital progress notes) and inpatient consult services.  The initial psychiatric evaluation codes as well as individual psychotherapy rules and psychotherapy + E/M services in the hospital setting are also discussed.
