E/M Coding Update: Learn about the most recent E/M coding updates for 2023.  The pool of encounters which may be documented using the 2021 guidelines has been greatly expanded to include all E/M services in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.  The extent of the history and physical exam no longer affect the level of care selected, which is instead driven by time or the medical decision-making required for each visit.  There are new rules for calculating your medical decision-making and a new convention for adding up time spent.  There are also new codes for prolonged services for both inpatients and outpatients.  This course explains it all.

Run time: 61 minutes.                                           CME: 1 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 CME

New Office Patients: Learn how the most recent E/M coding updates will impact the documentation for new office patients.  Learn how to calculate your medical decision-making and add up the time spent so you can select the correct level of care for each visit.  The lowest level of care (99201) has been deleted, leaving us with four levels of care for these visits.  This course uses clinical examples to illustrate exactly how to recognize the correct level of care and then shows, step-by-step, how to document each visit.

Run time: 60 minutes                                           CME: 1 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 CME

Established Office Visits:  These are the most common E/M encounters on the planet.  Learn how the most recent E/M coding updates will affect the documentation for these visits.  Did you know that if you can recognize the clinical circumstances when it would be appropriate to go from a level-3 established office visit to a level-4 established office visit, you would increase your reimbursement by 41%?  This course shows how to add up your time and quantify your medical decision-making, so you can always select the correct level of care for these visits.  The most recent guidance on reporting prolonged services in conjunction with these encounters is also discussed.

Run time: 62 minutes.                                           CME: 1 hour AMA PRA Category 1 CME

Outpatient Consult Services:  Medicare may not pay for outpatient consult services, but some private insurers still do.  For the first time, consult E/M services may be documented using the 2021 E/M guidelines.  The level-1 outpatient consult code (99241) has been deleted, which leaves us with four levels of care for these services.  The previous requirements for specific levels of history and physical exam have been discarded.  The level of care is now driven by time or by the medical decision-making required for the visit.  These courses will show you how to calculate your medical decision-making so you can always select the correct code for these visits.  Using clinical examples, we illustrate how to document each level of care for outpatient consult services.

Run time: 54 minutes.                                           CME: 1 hour AMA PRA Category 1 CME

: This course reviews the rules for coding for prolonged services in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. There are two methodologies for coding for prolonged services, one endorsed by the AMA and one endorsed by Medicare. Medicare will ONLY pay for their G codes for prolonged services. This course will take you through the requirements for prolonged services for all outpatient and inpatient encounters.
